	Virtual Design and 3-D Rendering

It’s like seeing your new outdoor space, even before it’s built....

Landscape plans have looked the same for a pretty long time now. Straight lines, arrows, maybe some color, maybe some shading for effect. For years, designs have been laid out in 2-D, which is great for actual construction of the project. But oftentimes, with more complicated (or eccentric!) projects, it’s difficult for the client to imagine their new space just looking at some lines on paper.

For example, here is a standard “plan view” landscape design of a pool-side patio with a pavilion, bar and fire pit. This works fine for seeing the general layout, but what about the elevation changes, walls, and overall “feel” of the space?

There’s seeing it in 2-D for the overall concept...

And then there’s REALLY seeing what it will look like. Here is the same design, but in 3-D.

Starting with the 2-D layout, we build a virtual model of the new space. (the image to the right is a still shot of a movable 3-D model). We can sit with our clients, spin the model around, change textures, look at different angles and really get a feel for how the design works.

A 3-d model let’s clients “get inside” the new landscape, and imagine it in real-time.

Models can be photorealistic, 3-D color images (as above), or simpler constructions to help explain the spatial relationships of the design (left).

	Models can be rotated, zoomed in, and really create a feeling of being “inside” the new space. This process provides a new way of conceptualizing an outdoor space and conveying the idea others.
