Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: When do I need to schedule my job?

A: We begin scheduling for the upcoming season in January.  It is strongly recommended to schedule prior to May for projects to be completed that summer.

Q: Can I look at materials and plants before they’re installed?

A: Of course! You can even choose the specific plant you’d like. We often meet clients at the nursery and stone yards to look at materials, compare side-by-side, and choose the landscape elements that match exactly what they are looking for.

Q: How much does landscaping cost?

A: That’s sometimes hard to say; your investment in landscaping will vary greatly on the size and complexity of the project.  Most new homeowners set aside 10-20% of the value of a new home for complete landscaping.  Things like brick paving generally run in the $15-20 per square foot range, again depending on size and complexity.

Q: What's my investment return on Landscaping?

A: Landscaping is among the very best things you can do for the value of your home.  Please see our Investment Page for more specifics.

Q: Why should I consider brick pavers over concrete?

A: Please see our Brick Paving Page for more specific information.

Q: Do you finance?

A: Yes, we offer financing through John Deere Credit, with very competitive rates and same as cash terms (pending client credit approval).

Q: Do you accept credit cards?

A: Yes, we accept Visa and Mastercard.

Q: Do you offer a warranty?

A: Yes, please see our Warranty Page.

Q: Are you licensed?

A: Yes, we are Licensed Nursery Stock Resellers, Michigan Certified Nurserymen, and Licensed Residential Builders in the State of Michigan.

Q: Are you insured?

A: Yes, Treasured Earth carries comprehensive business liability insurance and Workman's Compensation insurance as required by the State of Michigan.

Q: What do you need from me during the project?

A: We will need a mortgage survey for design work (to show property lines and measurements) and electrical and water hookups during construction.  You do not need to be home during the project, but you should be accessible by phone.

Q: What is your crews’ daily work schedule?

A: Our crews usually arrive at the project site by 8:00am.  Minimally crews work eight-hour days, five day weeks. In order to get a job done on time, or because of weather delays, our crews will work longer hours and/or Saturdays as required.

Q: What is the process, and how do we get started?

A: Generally the landscape design/construction process is as follows:

    1. Contact us to set up a free consultation.

    2. Project Orientation. At our first meeting we’ll discuss your goals and preferences, look at pictures and examples, and walk the property to understand the opportunities, challenges, etc.   We’ll discuss a few ideas, options and your budget for your new landscape.  Then, if you’d like to proceed with the design process, there is a nominal design fee, which is refunded to you when we actually install the landscape.  Treasured Earth accepts cash, check or Visa/Mastercard for this payment, and payment is due prior to design work commencing.

    3. Concept Development. After completely surveying and assessing your property, we will generate a few conceptual sketches to review with you (ideas ranging from formal to relaxed, to maybe even a little eccentric!)

    4. Preferred Concept. Once we’ve chosen a concept, it will be refined – with your ongoing input – to create a custom, comprehensive, scaled master plan for your property.

    5. Design Finalization. We’ll put the finishing touches on your landscape plan - the result is a unique design individually suited to each client and each site.  When the design is complete, we’ll also generate a detailed estimate of the work to be performed. Keep in mind, your new landscape can be installed all at once, or in phases as your budget allows.

    6. Choosing Materials.  We’ll complete the selection of materials for your project, even meeting at the supply yard to look at stone, brick and the plants to be installed.

    7. Scheduling.  Your project is scheduled into the season’s production schedule.  At this point, a 10% deposit is required to secure a slot in the schedule for that season.

    8. Materials ordering.  About a week before your project begins, we’ll get utility staking scheduled, as well as arranging for project material deliveries. At this stage, a deposit of 40% of the project total is required prior to the work commencing.

    9. Building Your New Surroundings!  Our experts go to work crafting your new landscape. You’ll be provided with details of what to expect during construction.

    10.  Completion. We’ll review the project with you and make sure we’ve exceeded your expectations.  Remember: we aren’t done until you’re completely thrilled with the final product!
