3-D Landscape Design and Architecture

Landscape design plans can sometimes be a bit hard to actually visualize.  For years, designs have been laid out primarily in 2-D.  That makes sense for the actual construction of the project, but its often difficult to describe the feel of the “vertical elements” - things like walls, decks, fireplaces and pergolas. Three dimensional models allow you to actually “feel” the new space, not just look at it on paper.

For example, here is a standard “plan view” landscape design of a pool-side  patio with a pavilion, bar and fire pit. This works fine for seeing the general layout, but what about the elevation changes, walls, and overall “feel” of the space?

There’s seeing it in 2-D for the overall concept...

And then there’s REALLY seeing what it will look like.  Here is the same design, but in 3-D.

Starting with the 2-D layout, we build a virtual model of the new space.  (the image to the right is a still shot of a movable 3-D model).  We can sit with our clients, spin the model around, change textures, look at different angles and really get a feel for how the design works.

A 3-D model let’s you interface with the design plan, and imagine it in real-time.  Models can be photorealistic, 3-D color images or simpler constructions to help explain the spatial relationships of the design.
